Black Mist Burnt Country 2016

October 04, 2016 by ADi

I am pleased to announce I am part of the Black Mist Burnt Country national touring exhibition.

The show opened by Ben Quilty in Sydney to mark the 60th anniversary of the first atomic test at Maralinga at the SH Ervin National Trust Gallery, The Rocks and will be touring most states over the next 3 years. The Exhibit features a huge array of leading past and present Australian artists.

In total, seven nuclear bomb blasts were detonated between 1956 and 1967 in the southern part of the Great Victoria Desert in South Australia followed by more than 600 'minor tests'.

An interview with curator JD Mittman and the fabulous Fran Kelly of Radio National can be heard via this link:

This original Mixed Media piece "Nickie Goes Hunting No.2 - Panel No.1" will be auctioned at the St Kilda Yacht Squadron next Thursday evening 3rd March 2016 to help raise money for HAGAR.ORG.AU - tickets for the event are available from hagar.org.au

Here is a little information about, HAGAR is an international organisation committed to the protection, recovery and reintegration of women and children who have suffered severe human rights abuses. Hagar operates commercial and not for profit entities in pursuit of its mission – to do what ever it takes, for as long as it takes, to restore a broken life.  These endeavours are made possible by Hagar’s prolific private and public sector partnerships.

Hagar responds to the most severe injustice and alienation against individual women and children. Hagar provides services without discrimination on the basis of religious beliefs, race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, nationality or political persuasion.

Hagar nurtures hope, healing, resilience, dignity, family and community so that all involved (donors, partners, staff and clients) experience transformation.

Hagar is tenacious in the face of the deep wounding that comes from severe abuse. Through its social programs, commercial businesses, and partnerships, Hagar ensures high quality services in healthcare, legal support, psychosocial support, education, family services, training and employment.

Hagar identifies the individual needs and potential of each survivor.  Hagar is focused on the dignity and resilience of the individual and committed to real life-giving relationships that nurture each person to their full potential.
